The Pèppoli Vineyard in Tuscany is owned by legendary Italian winemaker Marchese Piero Antinori, and is the inspiration for its sister restaurant; Pèppoli at Pebble Beach. The Antinori family has led a “renaissance” in Italian wine making by combining long traditions, a love of authenticity and a dynamic innovative spirit.
The Pèppoli Vineyard, located 15 miles south of Florence, was originally built as a monastery and records show that vineyards have been kept there since the middle ages by Vallombrosan Monks.
Piero Antinori purchased the 14th century estate in 1985 to celebrate his family’s 600th anniversary as Chianti wine producers, dating back to 1385 and spanning 26 generations. A total of 136 acres of grapevines are planted which produce the Pèppoli Single-Vineyard Chianti Classico, a lively, fruit-driven sangiovese based wine that compliments Italian food perfectly. There are also 6000 olive trees on the estate the produce the vintage-dated Organic Pèppoli Extra-Virgin Olive Oil.
On the Pèppoli Vineyard in Tuscany, there are plans to transform the ancient monastery and farm buildings into a 12-room “agriturismo” (Bed & Breakfast). While plans are being developed, for those wishing to visit the vineyards of Antinori we can offer accommodations at Antinori’s Fonte de Medici estate, or join one of Pèpe’s private culinary journeys to Tuscany.
The Antinori family owns many important wine producing estates in Tuscany, including Tenute Tignanello, Badia a Passignano, and Guado al Tasso. Castello della Sala in Umbria, Prunotto in Piemonte, Tormaresca in Puglia, and Antica in Napa Valley are also important Antinori vineyard estates.
